Know About the Process of Translation

The process of translation is not as easy as it sounds. Many people might have the misconception that translation is a word to word process, and any text can be translated easily using translation dictionary. But it is not that simple. A translator needs lot of skills like, strong verbal and written communication skills and should be able to express the target text with out changing its original meaning. Let us have a quick look on the process involved in translation to have a better idea.

The major things of the translation process are the Decoding and Re-encoding. These are the crucial steps in translation. It is not only important to understand the meaning of the source text but it is equally important to convey the same in the target language.

Decoding: The process of understanding the meaning of the source text is called Decoding. To do this, the translator needs to identify the translation units that is nothing but treating the segments of the text as cognitive units. This translation unit may be a word, a phrase or a paragraph. The translator needs to analyze that unit and to understand the main idea of it. Decoding is an internal process just like reading a news paper and to understand its content. The translators can note the main points especially any idioms and expressive things. The process of decoding is followed by Re encoding.

Re-encoding: The process of reverting the decoded thing in to the target language is called Re-encoding. This step is more important in the whole process of translation, because the quality of the output depends on this step. The translator needs in depth knowledge about the target language and need to be very particular about the grammar, semantics, syntax, idioms as well as the culture of the speaker. That text should be converted in such a way that it reflects the nativity of the target language. For this reason, many translators change the texts in to their own language or their mother tongue.

This is simple yet complicated process involved in Translation.

Skills of a Professional Translator

As more businesses are going global due to advanced technology, professional translation service is getting more important for the global businesses. Nowadays, professional translators and interpreters are needed to transfer information between companies. The translator’s work is not limited to only converting one language to another. To attract more businesses, the Norwegian translator must present something that is nice, original and competitive in price. Other than fighting cut-throat prices with other competitors, a translator should use his or her professionalism to convince the client to give his business to him. Some professionalism conditions a translator must have are as followed:

It is the most important code of conduct that a translator must have. Translators often come across confidential information such as business plan, marketing strategy or a new invention. They should never use this information to harm the client. By being honest and loyal, translators can build trust with their clients and thus help establish their careers and future. The translators should never accept translation work beyond their capacity. By over promise and under-deliver, it will only ruin their careers in the translation industry.

Be efficient in language translation

A good professional translator will be able to translate the business documents to its native language or equivalent. They will also need to be familiar with the topic or field being translated so as to translate more accurately.

Always willing to learn
Translators need to have the capacity and always ready to adapt to any changes in the fast-moving technological world. They should also be well-versed with modern communication tools such as instant messenger and computers. The last thing that professional translators should think about is to stop learning.

Advantages of machine translation

Machine translation (MT) is a branch of computational linguistics which checks the use of computer software to translate text or speech from one language to another.

Quick Translation: The use of the machine translation system allows a person to save time when translating large texts.

Documents For Which Machine Language Works Well

Machine translation is the method of translating documents without any human intervention. Also referred to as MT, the translation is a process where a computer program will analyze a source text and generates a target text. In some situations machine translation is selected while in other cases human translation is more suitable. But, machine translation is not completely without of human intervention. Human intervention is included in the form of pre-editing and post-editing.
