Types Of Caregivers

When taking a decision on hiring a caregiver, there is a range of trained professionals available who can help in many different difficult situations.

Nursing Assistance
Nursing assistance can be obtained in the form of Licensed Practical Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, and Registered Nurses who have little different qualifications and experience. A caregiver like Registered Nurse is generally required for patients who are very much sick and require higher level of care. The cost of hiring such a nurse is generally higher. Nurses perform tasks like govern medications, treat for any injuries or wounds and supervise any medical equipment. They are mostly employed in nursing homes or retirement homes.

Rehabilitation Assistance
Rehabilitation assistance is required for patients who suffered from a stroke or an accident and need to build up their motor skills. This requires the assistance of Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists or Speech Therapists. This type of care can be done at home or at the therapy centre, based on how mobile the patient is and how frequently they need a therapy session.

Care Assistance
Care assistance can be of many forms based on requirement of patient or family. There are Companions or Assistant caregivers who will give company and assist with household tasks and chores like Grocery shopping, Cleaning, Caring for animals (i.e. walking a dog), Cooking, Personal Hygiene assistance. Personal care assistance is required for a person who requires more assistance and live on their own or with family. They should have more medical experience like trained in First Aid, home safety and body mechanics.

Health Aides
Home Health Aides or Certified Nurse’s Aides are well qualified in the fundamentals of the nursing profession and rehabilitation therapy and can be appointed to provide medical services like pulse and blood pressure monitoring, physical exercises and in-bed care.
