A Caregiver is a person who provides compassion, care and assistance to those (suffering from disorders or very old people) who need help or assistance in everyday living. Caregivers can be self-hired or from agency.

Advantages

  • They are generally less expensive (salary given will be less) than hiring from an agency.
  • You will have more authority and command in selection of the caregiver.
  • There will be greater flexibility in work timings and responsibilities or duties of caregiver.

Disadvantages:

  • The process of searching, interviewing, and checking references is time consuming.
  • There will be no supervision or special foundation or teaching from an agency.
  • There will be no report for caregiver absenteeism.
  • You may be responsible for paying insurance coverage for caregiver.
  • You may be liable for payroll, deductions, and taxes for caregiver.

Agency Caregiver

Advantages:

  • All of the process of hiring and firing is performed by the agency.
  • Caregivers are examined and supervised by the agency.
  • Back up caregivers are provided if your caregiver is sick.
  • The agency is responsible for payroll, deductions, and taxes.
  • The agency generally performs thorough background checks on their employees.
  • The agency generally favors on-going training for their caregivers.

Disadvantages:

  • The cost involved is high compared to self-hiring a caregiver.
  • Caregivers may be temporary and alternating which leads to confusion and interruption of care.
  • Caregiver will be more reserved to the duties they are appointed to perform.
