Four types of inhalants are there such as volatile solvents, gases, aerosols, and nitrites. Moods can be altered by volatile solvents, gases, and aerosols. People believe that nitrites create sexual stimulation and enhancement.
Types of Inhalants:
- Volatile solvents: These are liquids at room temperature which become gas with increase in temperature. Some examples of volatile solvents are removers, paint thinners, glues, gasoline and felt tip marker fluids.
- Gases: These gases are such as medical gases, commercial or household products like propane tanks, butane lighters, whipped cream dispensers contain nitrous oxide, and refrigerants.
- Aerosol sprays: These are widespread inhalants used at home like deodorants and hairsprays, spray paint, static cling sprays, vegetable oil cooking sprays, fabric protector sprays.
- Nitrites: These are amyl nitrite, cyclohezyl nitrite, butyl nitrite. They are called as snappers or poppers on the street. These are found in some room capsules and deodorizers when opened, they release vapors.
How inhalants kill:
Although inhalants are taken only once, some people may die by abusing inhalants. Causes of death are:
- Sudden sniffing death: It is the most common cause of death caused by inhalant use. The heart beat becomes faster and irregular, and then stops suddenly.
- Asphyxia: Oxygen in the lungs is replaced by toxic fumes so that person stops breathing.
- Choking: A user can choke on vomiting.
- Injuries: When people are high on inhalants then they make poor decisions. They may do something irrational like jumping off a roof.
- Suicide: Some people become depressed and they commit suicide.
Like this, human beings are affected by different types of inhalant drugs, and users may die quickly.
