Yoga is designed to stimulate the characteristics, which are important in life to be human.
Precautions that must be taken while practicing yoga are:
- Practicing yoga in an inappropriate manner can provoke the negatives, instead of developing positive changes in the body and mind. So, it is recommended that yoga must be practiced with professional guidance and knowledge. If you’re physically sick, then do not practice yoga.
- People suffering from crucial problems such as heart trouble, high or low blood pressure or any serious disease must avoid asanas (postures), which may produce dangerous effects.
- Vigorous physical exercises such as gymnastics, weightlifting, jogging, tennis, swimming etc. must not be done immediately after asanas and prayama. There should be minimum 20 minutes gap between practice of yoga and exercise.
- Yoga must be practiced in a quiet, isolated place, where fresh air surrounds for fresh breathing and peace of mind.
- It is recommended to practice yoga early in the morning, or in early evening on an empty stomach. It can also be practiced four hours after a heavy meal and 20 minutes after a glass of juice or a cup of skimmed milk.
- A time program of practicing yoga must be ideal to make it a regular practice. For example, Pranayama can be initiated with a less duration at first and can be increased slowly based on one’s capability to concentrate.
- In beginning one might feel stiffness in muscles but later with regular practice it can be removed. Clean, loose, free flowing clothes mostly cotton garments must be worn. In cold climates, a shirt or sweater should be worn.
- Yoga practice should be practiced on a clean mat, rug, carpet or a blanket, as the body is stretched in all directions.
- Yoga must be practiced only on the ground but not on sofas and beds.
